Thanks to the efforts of my cousins Ben and Susan, I just received a huge box of slides from Katharine’s travels that had been in storage. Of course the first thing I did was to look for pictures from this trip. Much to my great delight, I found a group labeled European Trip 1963 and dug in. So many treasures to explore! I’ve linked back to the posts the pictures go along with.
#2: July 1963, on a boat
Boarding the SS United States in New York Harbor.

Katherine and her friends in their deck chairs—and the knit suit with polka-dot blouse she mentions wearing.
I found this image of K and her friends at the shipboard “Gala Dinner” in a file of travel documents.
#3: July 1963, arriving in France
First day in Paris

#4: July 1963, in Paris (part 1)
Street scene with donkey.
The Eiffel Tower (with a view from the second level).

I love these street scenes!

#5: July 1963, in Paris (part 2)
At the Louvre—Bertha wanted to see Mona, Venus, and the Winged Victory.
Les Halles.
Boat ride on the Seine, including a scale model of the Statue of Liberty located on the Isle of Swans, and street getting set up for Bastille Day parade.

In the Tuileries Gardens, sailing a little boat.

Now that I’m caught up with the backlog, I’ll start adding K’s photos to the trip journals starting next week!
